Five Elephant
Berlin, Germany
Since 2013, Five Elephant has been buying coffee from the Kamwangi Factory - wet mills are called “Factories” in Kenya. Founded in 1997 it is one of three wet mills that belong to the New Ngariama FCS, located on the southern slopes of Mount Kenya. The Kamwangi factory collects cherries from roughly 1000 smallholder farmers from the region to process them as washed coffees before the beans are dried on raised beds for up to 21 days. To decrease water consumption significantly they recycle and reuse the water used during the process. Further, the farmers delivering their cherries receive support from CMS farm management services to increase productivity and quality of their harvest.
