About This Coffee

The third coffee of our Women in Coffee Program, this enjoyably complex coffee supports and empowers women within the coffee industry to achieve meaningful and sustainable lives. Tasting Notes: Tangerine, Soft, Malty, Brown Sugar, and Earl Grey Tea This coffee is sourced in collaboration with JNP Coffee, whose mission is to transform lives in Burundi by empowering women with tools for self-sufficiency, including ownership rights and access to education. Musenyi is one of the new additions to JNP Coffee starting this year. A group of producers reached out to Jeanine after the Rainforest Alliance Certification training we provided to our partners. They learned about JNP Coffee's ongoing projects in Burundi, including the second payment program and the RFA training, and invited Jeanine to partner with them. This area is located far from major cities, leaving it largely untouched by past civil conflicts, which makes Cankuzo very different from other areas- women producers and workers are highly valued here, holding key leadership positions such as Head of Production and Head of Quality. Cankuzo province, located near the borders of Tanzania and Burundi, is home to two natural reserve areas and is the least populated province in Burundi. Among its five communes is Cankuzo commune, where our Musenyi coffee is sourced. Unique to this terroir, the people here plant not only coffee cherries but also a good amount of peanuts.
