About This Coffee
With aromas of orange, hazelnut and raisin and a long fruity aftertaste, the 29th Limited Edition Microfarm Project comes from the Democratic Republic of Congo to tell its own specialty story. The rain-rich volcanic soils around Lake Kivu are the fertile ground in which small farmers create Kalehe, as the processing mill area of this unique 100% specialty Arabica coffee that lands in our Coffee Roasters is called. Years of ongoing conflict and political instability have resulted in the abandonment of many plantations, with smallholders exploiting only a small fraction of DRC's coffee-growing potential. Today, plantations are renewed, cooperatives are created with fair and transparent business practices, youth and women find employment, and local communities benefit from the well-being of the population.
