Nestled high in the Rwandan hills above Musanze, the Shyira washing station, established in 2017, is a beacon of coffee excellence. It's the pride of Muraho Trading Company, sitting at an elevation of 1850 meters, making it the highest facility in their esteemed collection. This remarkable station, servicing nearly 2,000 local farmers, is more than just a coffee processing site. It's a testament to sustainable harmony, where small backyard gardens flourish alongside coffee plants in the rich, volcanic soil of Nyabihu. This biodiversity not only nurtures the environment but also imparts a unique, sweet, and juicy acidity to the coffee. With fewer than 50 raised drying beds, Shyira's intimate setting ensures that each coffee batch receives the utmost care, with a drying process that spans up to 40 days. This meticulous approach contributes to the exceptional quality of the coffee produced. Muraho Trading Co. affectionately refers to Shyira as their "Little Baby," not just for its size but for its breathtaking beauty. The journey to the station is a spectacle in itself, offering views of Rwanda's majestic chain of volcanoes and the enchanting Gicice river. The station's location amidst white sands, fog-covered hills, and idyllic weather conditions is a testament to its uniqueness. At Memli, we believe that every cup of coffee tells a story. The Shyira story is one of awe-inspiring landscapes, dedicated farmers, and a commitment to exceptional coffee processing. It's a story we can't wait for you to experience in every sip.
