About This Coffee

A Shangri-La awaits in the hills of the Central Valley region of Costa Rica. This inviting, family run farm is over 100 years old and is named Sonora, a play on the “sounds” of brooks flowing, lyrical birds chirping and the pinging noise of industrious tools working the soil. Father and son team Alberto and Diego Guardia are not only hospitable to guests and coffee buyers but also provide free housing to their committed group of staff and coffee pickers. An engineer by training, Diego Guardia has been very open to collaborations with coffee roasters from around the world and has experimented with a range of varieties and processes. Ciel is excited to be the only US roaster to offer this harvest of SL28, traditionally the finest cultivar from Kenya, this Costa Rica SL28 version yields spectacular flavors from the rich soils and processes of Hacienda Sonora.
