Coffee Of The World
Norway
Monsooned Malabar consists of coffee beans from Karnataka in India. The coffee is processed by monsooning, a completely unique Indian method that gives a strong coffee with low acidity and a taste of vanilla, leather and sweet tobacco. The Monsooned Malabar coffee type originated during long transport voyages early in the history of Indian coffee. There it was discovered that the humidity in the ships' holds gave the coffee a unique character. Today, the washed raw coffee is stored under roof in warehouses without walls during the humid monsoon period, where it is turned several times a day. This is how you get a characteristic coffee unlike anything else. You don't know how the different districts' coffee will develop until after the monsoon has finished. That's why we search and select coffee from among the ready-monsooned coffee types in one of the oldest and best-known coffee districts for monsooning in India: Karnataka.
