Sey Coffee
New York, NY, USA
We created this lot by combining very small deliveries from multiple producers. As our work continues in Urrao, we have been lucky to meet many new producers. However, some harvests are too small to fully separate and export. This cup presents vibrant yellow tropical fruit with excellent sweetness and acidity. Chiroso is a new variety being grown primarily in the region of Antioquia, Colombia. We only started hearing about its cultivation a couple of years ago, but because of its cup quality potential it is beginning to spread. The variety has been genetically identified as an Ethiopian Landrace, but unfortunately we cannot get any more specific than that at this time. We have been working very hard building a buying program in the region of Urrao specifically around the variety of Chiroso. We still don't know where or how this variety came to be cultivated in this particular region, but its cup quality is extraordinary. We will be working with our exporting partner, The Coffee Quest, to continue developing this project, and hope that we'll be able to bring you more of this special coffee from this special region year after year. This lot is a blend of harvests from three extremely small producers in Urrao, and Penderisco is the name of the main river that runs through the region. We have been focusing on the region of Urrao for a few years, and it has quickly become one of our most exciting projects. The coffees from here, especially the Chirosos, are among some of the best, most unique, and most dynamic coffees we taste anywhere in the world. We have encountered numerous farms in this region that are simply too small to produce enough coffee to mill and export on their own. To bring these coffees to market, we spend several days cupping through the small deliveries and selecting the very best ones to blend into what we call neighboring producer lots. We hope that this project will help these producers eventually produce enough coffee to separate and release under their individual names!
