Marta Mejia Lopez and her 5-hectare farm can be found in a village named La Cienega in San Pedro Necta. Here at 1650 meters above sea level, you'll find Marta and her family speaking Spanish and Mam (an ancient Mayan language) while hand-picking ripe cherries. This detailed work ensures that only the highest-quality sweetness and fruit flavors transfer over into the cup. Each day’s harvest is fermented overnight and washed three times to remove the mucilage before being sun-dried on patios. The coffees of San Pedro Necta in the Huehuetenango department of Guatemala are some of the best quality in the world. We have been working for over a decade to improve the lives of farmers in this area with a goal of sourcing transparently traded coffees that meet the standards of Fair For All certification. We built a network of individual farmers with Olam Specialty Coffee; Marta and her family are part of this network and her micro lot is our first ever single producer lot of this quality to come from Huehuetenango!
