The Musenyi washing station is one of the most prominent coffee processing facilities in the region, known for its commitment to quality and sustainability. Located in a mountainous area of fertile soils and favorable climate, this season receives coffee cherries grown at high altitude, which contributes to the development of complex and balanced flavor profiles. Small producers from nearby communities, many of them with family plots, carefully collect ripe cherries by hand and deliver them daily at the station. Once there, they are selected through a flotation process to separate the defective cherries, and then they are pulped before passing to the fermentation tanks. The fermentation process in Musenyi is carefully controlled to ensure cup cleanliness and bright acidity, characteristics highly valued in the coffees of the region. After washing, the grains are dried in the sun on raised beds, where they are regularly stirred and protected from rain and excessive heat. This traditional method not only allows uniform drying, but also helps to preserve the quality of the grain over time. The station also plays a key role in community development, providing seasonal employment and promoting sustainable agricultural practices among local producers. Thanks to these efforts, processed coffee in Musenyi has earned a prominent place in the international market for its traceability, consistency and excellent cup profile.
