In the picturesque Chelchele kebele in Ethiopia's Yirgacheffe region, Tibebu Roba serves as an inspiration for coffee producers in the region. His coffee is amongst the best in Ethiopia, having previously scored an outstanding 91 points in the Ethiopian Cup auction, which earned him a premium of USD 33,658 for the 572kg lot. Having assisted his father with coffee farming since childhood, Tibebu acquired 8.3 hectares of land in 1982, drawn to the beauty of the Chelchele region. Since, he has embarked on a journey that would impact the livelihoods of the local community, inspiring other smallholders with his dedication to produce high-quality coffee. Tibebu's approach to coffee production reflects his commitment to the environment, using no synthetic chemicals, instead producing his own compost. Tibebu also serves the local community as a preacher and a pillar of support. The coffee harvest at Tibebu's farm typically takes place from November to mid-January. The coffee is dried on raised beds, allowing the inherent flavours and characteristics to shine in his natural-processing techniques, perfected with his unwavering passion and connection to the land.
