About This Coffee

This coffee comes from indigenous growers from Aponte, Nariño, who are members of La Cooperativa de Cafes Especiales de Nariño. The producers in this project grow coffee at altitudes above 1700 meters and their farms range in size from 0.5 to 1.5 hectares. In Aponte, the producers are skilled in honey processing, having produced honey for four consecutive years. The amount of coffee produced by the farmers is tiny, and the low relative humidity in the area is beneficial for the process, as it requires less space and allows the coffee to dry much faster than other coffee-producing regions. The Aponte indigenous reserve, nestled within Tablon de Gomez, is a testament to resilience and transformation. Once a dangerous and nearly inaccessible area, it is now gaining recognition from roasters worldwide. The people here, with their unique language, politics, and rules, have chosen a different path. They've bravely broken free from the economic dependence on drug production, turning to the cultivation of traditional vegetables and coffee. Today, they proudly market their own indigenous products.
