Flower Child Coffee
Oakland, CA, USA
Region: Kirinyaga, Kenya Process: Washed Altitude: 1,600 MASL Harvest: October 2023 Notes: Persimmon, currant, raisin, citrus zest, well-rounded. This is our first Kenyan offering of the year. It may be our only offering out of Kenya this year! Nugugu-ini AB is well balanced and approachable to all types of coffee drinkers. This lot has notes of almond-cream, with a mix of darker fruits & a light acidity. This a comforting cup, well rounded with a solid structure of brown sugar on the bassline. Kirinyaga is abounding with nutrient rich, red volcanic soil. The Kirinyaga processing plant uses water from the Ratagi River. This river is also the main source of water for the population adjacent to it. Producers deliver cherries to the wet mills or collection centers. Kirinyaga County is located 2 hours from Kenya's capital, Nairobi. It’s also south of Mount Kenya, an extinct volcano and the second highest snow-capped peak in Africa, after Kilimanjaro. The predominant population of Kirinyaya are the Kikuyu, the oldest native population in the area. The farms here are made up of small personal plots, dwindling every year. Due to lack of opportunity, much of the young population is migrating en masse to cities in search of better jobs, leaving their parents alone on the farms or even taking their parents and abandoning their farms. This problem gets worse each year. Coffees like this are becoming harder and harder to find. Please savor this rare and beautiful crop from one of our favorite coffee regions in the world! Order by Sunday for next Monday's roast. Our coffees are best after two weeks+ of the roast date.
