Welcome to our 7th version of Fundamental Winter Solstice Blend. Every year we look forward to assembling a blend that is only available during the holiday season and hopefully captures the spirit of the fall and winter months. As a start, the coffee must be full-bodied and spicy and evoke the tradition of a hot mug keeping you warm on a winter’s day. We hope to fill your olfactory nerves with the unmistakable aroma of dark-roasted Fundamental Coffee instead of the occasional frayed nerves your relatives may cause. This year’s addition combines a fancy Guatemalan coffee with two rare components from the Asia Pacific region. From the Asia Pacific region, we have used two rare that were special and distinct enough to have garnered the Reserve designation by our colleagues in origin. We lead off with Sumatra Triple Picked Lintong Reserve, a coffee that is no stranger to Fundamental Coffee blends. This lot is a spicy and herbal example of Lake Toba coffee at its most spectacular. To add notes of cedar, cigar box and dried basil we selected a Sulawesi Reserve from the highlands of Torajaland in Indonesia. The big contributor in this blend is our Guatemala Santa Palencia from the Palencia region, east of Guatemala City. Santa Palencia coffees are renowned for thick, chocolatey notes and complex florals evoking spearmint and eucalyptus. All three of these components unite in a well-balanced but deep and layered expression of Winter Solstice. We hope you like it as much as we do.
