The way Kenya's national coffee market works is that every year, we meet up with our longtime export partners in Nairobi to taste sample after sample of some of the world’s finest single origins. Among all of the great coffees we sample, we find extraordinary ones—coffees that combine the juicy and fruity qualities of the best Kenyans in the best possible configurations. It’s fair to say that when we sampled this single origin from Kaguyu Factory, it grabbed our attention like a glowing neon sign. Its acidity is assertive yet round, like grapefruit mixed with tree-ripened peaches and plums. Its rich and complex sweetness is like a blackberry compote drizzled with honey. And with a layered bouquet of dried fruit and fresh herbs, its aroma revivifies even the most somnolent among us.
