Cafés Lugat
Arcachon, France
This coffee comes from the farm that bears the same name. The farm is part of the COMSA cooperative, specialised in specialty coffees (all coffees that are harvested have a minimum score of 80/100). Several years ago, the city of Marcala owned a large cooperative with many small producers. After its break-up, the members were left without a processing plant. It is for this reason that about sixty producers decided to unite to form the private company COMSA (Café Orgánico Marcala). Today, more than 700 producers make up this cooperative and all the employees are producers. They all get to follow courses about coffee tasting and organic farming. The cooperative also subsidises the education of children in the community. As well as producing organic coffees, they put a lot of emphasis on the organic farming model and the consumption of organic products. Every week, there is an organic farming market in the city of Marcala. This Microlot "Clave De Sol" comes from Miriam Elisabeth Perez. She recalls that when she was little, her grandfather always brought his brothers and cousins to the farm, but did not like to take her with him because "girls do notwork on a farm!". Ultimately, she was the one who took over the family farm! She works with her husband and children on the farm and has been producing coffee for over 20 years. She represents the third generation of her family to produce coffee. Her farm, located in the village of El Rincon Marcala (La Paz), represents 3.5 hectares of coffee trees. She produced 112 bags of green coffees last year. Miriam Elisabeth Perez processes her coffee in the COMSA's facilities and dries her coffee in the sun. Miriam believes in organic production and defends the quality of her work. The aim is to produce organic coffee of high quality and pass it on to her 4 children, to pass down her vision of the coffee culture and her values of deep respect for Nature.
