Another coffee from Indonesia, but that shouldn't surprise anyone. This time from the island of Sumatra, the coffee is unique because, just like the coffees from our plantations in Flores, it is grown by women. Here you will find notes of black currant, brown sugar and black tea. Coffee cultivation in Indonesia has a 300-year history, which was significantly influenced by colonization. Out of over 18,000 islands, only about ten main islands have become Indonesia's coffee-producing regions. About. 92% of coffee production is in the hands of small producers using traditional techniques such as the semi-washing technique. The island of Sumatra is located in the very west of Indonesia. The province of Aceh is located in the north of the largest island of Indonesia. The villages of Bintang and Kebayakan lie on Lake Laut Tawar at an altitude of 1,100 meters above sea level, surrounded by green and fertile mountains. In this region, over 300 women cultivate approximately 340 ha. Women unite in the Ari Aras Awali cooperative (A3). At A3, training is the key to the cooperative's success. Various non-governmental organizations are involved in the region to improve the living conditions of farmers by achieving greater economic stability and independence. One approach is technical training by agronomists to change the yield of each coffee. However, for some A3 members, participating in leadership and democratic governance training has significant added value. By supporting members' vital stewardship and economic success, they strive to achieve long-term stability and growth. We are happy to offer you this coffee from the Ari Aras Awali Women's Cooperative!
