El Puente is produced at El Puente Beneficio - MicroMill, a processing plant built in 2018 for nearby farms. El Puente takes its name from the pedestrian bridge over the river near the new El Puente processing plant. Located in southern Huila, this facility produces coffee on its farms, processing coffee from surrounding small farms and shipping it to El Puente, which is designed to process larger volumes of coffee than smaller mills. El Puente is a pilot project supported by social investments for the sustainable development of rural areas in Colombia. El Puente Beneficio buys the coffee from neighboring producers, paying them a high price even without processing it. This directs coffee farmers to grow good quality coffee and protect the harvest very well. The coffees coming to El Puente Beneficio are processed with honey, natural or washed. In El Puente's special preparation process, the coffee goes through a washing process. El Puente sources its coffee berries from producers selected from certain regions based on profiles and whether the berries are at the right ripeness for the blend. In the next step, they measure Brix degrees to determine flotation and fermentation times. The shell removal process takes place and the beans are kept in tanks for 30 to 42 hours. After fermentation, the beans are washed and dried in parabolic dryers under the sun, which takes approximately 15 to 18 days. The coffee is then rested until it reaches an acceptable moisture level and is ready to be sent to our roasting facility.
