Wilson Alba owns and operates Finca Sierra Morena in Palestina, Huila. We visited his 25 hectare farm last fall and saw his 16,000 Pink Bourbon trees planted on dramatically steep slopes. Sierra Morena belonged to his grandfather; he owned 6 hectares at the time. His father inherited the farm and bought land from his neighbors, on which his 5 sons grew up, all of which were involved in the activities of the farm, eventually buying more land together. In 2003, the family decided to change the coffee tradition, replacing all coffee trees with fruit production, leaving part of the farm for cattle. Wilson remained in charge of the farm. In 2016, he learned about specialty coffee and decided to return to the family tradition, planting about 6 hectares of coffee. Since then, the quality of his coffee has continually increased. In fact, he recently came in 4th place at The Coffee Quest's Huila Magico competition. We released his competition lot as a subscriber exclusive earlier this year. So, this is the first time we have offered his coffee to the wider public.
