Ethiopia is the birthplace of coffee. There are between six and ten thousand varieties of coffee. In most cases, Ethiopian coffee is sold as heirloom coffee because there are no genetic tests that would allow buyers to distinguish the varieties. Cross-pollination occurs in the wild, which is why the term "Ethiopian Heirloom" exists as a collective term. This naturally processed coffee is a clear cup with tropical notes. The coffee comes from Daye Bensa Gatta Farm and is located in the heart of the village of Shantawene, 10 km from the town of Daye, amidst natural forest and native trees said to be over 200 years old. The farm is located within easy reach of the farms of Bombe, Shantawene and Keramo villages. It is surrounded by rivers, which makes the soil very fertile. One of them flows down from the hills above Karamo, separating Shantawene village from Bombe. In order to preserve the natural shade and fertility of the soil, various shade trees are planted on the farm with the advice of the Ministry of Agriculture. Together with the farms of the cultivators, the farm is verified as organic, C.A.F.E PRACTICE, UTZ and Rain Forest Alliances. Our Natural Sidamo Shantewene comes from the Shantewene washing station. In 2020, this washing station drew attention because the coffee that placed 7th in the 2020 Cup of Excellence was processed here.
