Haile Gebre owns and operates two farms and a washing station under the Mordecofe name, short for ‘Mora Mora River Valley Development Coffee’. In 2001, Haile left his government post and returned home to cultivate coffee on his family's land in the highland forests of Southern Ethiopia. Stumptown has proudly offered Ethiopia Mordecofe every year since 2006. We’re honored to continue our Direct Trade relationship with Haile Gebre to bring you a vibrant and aromatic cup of coffee. Mordecofe is located in the Guji Zone of Ethiopia, about 200 miles from the Kenyan border. Haile works with medium sized coffee farms in the surrounding area to produce high quality, organic coffee. Mordecofe provides farmers with new seedlings and extensive education on harvesting, cherry selection, and organic agricultural practices. Permanent staff members offer practical experience in coffee production, processing, and harvesting. Recently, Haile finished building a beautiful state of the art dry mill located in Addis Ababa. The multi-story building handles both natural and washed processed coffee and includes a cupping lab.
