We are excited to have Alma Pineda's coffee return for a sixth year. This natural process marks the second harvest by Cup of Excellence Award Winning couple Alma Pineda & Evin Moreno's newest farm. It does not fail to live up to their storied reputation. This year's harvest has deep fruit sweetness, effervescent acidity, and clean strong structure. They planted the land together with new SL-28 seedlings five years ago. Originally a Kenyan coffee variety, it is known for its complex acidity and bold fruit notes. We were lucky to get the first harvest last year. Now in its second year, the plants have established themselves further and the unique varietal characteristics are even more expressive in this year's harvest. After careful picking, the coffee underwent natural processing at the Moreno Family wet mill. Ripe cherries are sorted for quality and then fermented in fruit for 72 hours. Next, they are sundried on raised beds underneath parabolic driers for slow, even drying – allowing the fruit and fermentation notes to come to the forefront. Unique varietal and expert processing combine to make Alma Pineda SL-28 Natural a remarkable coffee. In the cup we taste layered black currant, playful finger lime, and ripe raspberry.
