About This Coffee
This coffee is processed at the Kii Factory, a member of the Rung’eto Farmers Cooperative Society in Central Kenya. Kii is one of three wet mills managed by the Rung’eto FCS in Kirinyaga and is Fairtrade certified. We've been procuring coffee from the Rungeto Farmers Cooperative since 2016. The society was formed after the dissolution of the Ngiriama FCS, leading Kiangoi, Karimikui, and Kii to merge. The Chairman of this society has implemented various quality-focused processes throughout all the factories of the Rung’eto FCS. Farmers associated with the Rung’eto Cooperative cultivate their crops on Mount Kenya's slopes, known for producing intense, complex, and flavour-dense coffees. In this area, the flowering period usually occurs between February and March. After this, the trees are ready for harvest from October to December. The fly crop occurs in July–August, which means we also see small volumes of high-quality Kenyan coffee later in the year. The processing involves hand sorting, pulping, fermentation, washing/grading, and drying. The coffee is processed from cherry to green bean with care at every step. The soil in the region is rich and developed from volcanic materials, known for producing exceptional coffee. This coffee offers a complex and intense flavor profile, characteristic of Kenyan coffees.
