The Alvarado Sisters (Ana Isabel, Iris, and Lourdes) took over their coffee farm, Finca El Colibri, from their father. It was from him that they learned the coffee business—from cultivation to managing the day to day operations. The name of the farm itself, Colibri, comes from the Spanish word for “hummingbird,” which was chosen due to their frequency of being spotted on the grounds. This coffee is indicative of the wonderful work being done in Honduras within the COCAFCAL producers co-op. The co-op not only elevates coffee quality, but quality of life with community services, sustainability initiatives, and continued innovation.
