Iyenga Agricultural Marketing Cooperative Society deals exclusively with coffee and collects from 500+ farmers within the Mbeya region of Tanzania. Known for being well organized, Iyenga operates as a democracy and gives any farmer who is part of the Cooperative an opportunity to step into positions of power. When the Society first registered under the Tanzanian cooperative act, all members were male, but to date there's 17 females in the group. This mixed lot of coffee comes from many farms that are 5 hectares or fewer (often farms are around one hectare) and is a blend of both mill processed coffees and coffee that was processed at the farm it was grown. Regardless of where it was processed, all of the coffee contained in this lot undergoes great quality control and proper picking / washing to ensure great flavor. The profile is very very sweet, with an almost instant taste of cane sugar and molasses. The body is light and reminiscent of green tea with a touch of lemon and honey. Cinnamon, clove and just a tiny hint of pink peppercorn are in the finish. We haven't had a Tanzania in almost 8 years and we're very very excited about how well this lot cupped!
