About This Coffee

PROCAFEQ's Typica beans are grown in Loja, and are washed in the nearby washing station. Here, the flesh and skin of the coffee cherry is removed by a depulper, before being filled into a water tank, where the remaining mucilage is washed away from the beans. Then, the beans are dried carefully in the sun. In the cup, we taste a pleasant balance between sweetness and acidity, with sugar cane pairing beautifully with a zesty citrus note, and a clean and delicate finish. The SHB EP Loca PROCAFEQ is grown in the Puyango Region in the Loja Provence in Peru, where the damp, subtropical climate is ideal for growing coffee. 680 coffee farmers in the region have joined together to form PROCAP (Asociacion Agroartesanal de Productores de Café Altura Puyango), and between them have 2500 hectares of coffee plantations. PROCAP grows the Typica variety, which is well suited to the local climate and requires only minimal fertilisation to achieve a great product. This helps them to acheive their goal of producing high quality washed Arabica coffees with a consistent flavour profile that doesn't harm the environment. To further this goal, they've also developed an efficient composting system that allows organic waste to be fed back into the local ecosystem.
