Santa Maria is a farm in Peru owned by Cesar Sampertegui. While most Peruvian coffees are known for being balanced and smooth (aka simple), Cesar broke away from that limiting identity of Peruvian coffees by using an Anaerobic process on this Caturra (a varietal of coffee bean!). The final result is a coffee that retains the smooth and buttery mouthfeel typical of Peruvian coffee, but also has out-of-the-ordinary lively guava and floral notes. Cesar entered this coffee in the most recent Cup of Excellence (COE) competition and came in #17th in the entire country. Cesar says he was "born passionate" about coffee and has a fond history in the industry. He grew up on his parents coffee farm, tending to trees and growing into his own as a coffee producer. His farm now is very diverse and has Guava, Orange, and many other trees growing on the land. This biodiversity leads to an overall healthy environment for plants is positively impactful on coffee quality.
