About This Coffee
The farm Los Pirineos has been run by the Baraona family for over a century. They’ve been growing their beautiful coffee at the top of the Tecapa volcano since 1890, and for the last many years it has been Gilberto Baraona who’s manned the helm. We first met him in 2014 when he invited us to his home for barbecue and a cupping in his family kitchen. Besides Gilberto’s hospitality, he stands out as a multiple winner of the Cup of Excellence in El Salvador, with over 15 separate awards, producing some of the best coffee in the world. We were very sad to hear of the much too early passing of Gilberto in 2020 as the coffee world lost one of its brightest stars. Today it’s his children Diego and Fabiola who manage the farm, firmly devoted to continuing their father’s legacy and the family tradition. We’re so proud to continue to share the Baraona family’s coffee from Los Pirineos and we hope you’ll love it as much as we do.
