Rose Coffee
Zürich, Switzerland
This lot took out the first place in the 9th Cerrado Mineiro Region Auction, under the Fermented category. It sold for $70.10USD/kg - most going directly to the farmer. We sourced this lot directly with the help of Cocar, and Patrick from Capricorn coffee. Agilmar Ferreira Pinto, or Ferrinho, as he ́s affectionately referred to in the Coop, began producing coffee only 15 years ago. Ferrinho was born close to Belo Horizonte in a small town called Dores do Indaia, where no coffee is produced. His initial contact with coffee came about as a result of his involvement in the machinery business. Ferrinho would service, repair and sell machinery to coffee producers and this close contact with coffee led him to buy his first plot of land. Today Ferrinho has a total area of 57 hectares planted to coffee. This winning Auction lot was produced on Fazenda Esmeril close to Patrocinio. Ferrinho reckons pre-harvesting activities were key to this coffee winning the competition. A blend of milk, copper and natural phosphate were used as fungicide and the coffee was pulverized with molasses prior to picking. The winning lot was manually harvested to ensure only perfectly ripe cherries were picked after which they were laid out to dry in very thick layers for 48 hours. The coffee was constantly turned to ensure uniformity but always dried in thick layers. After 15 days repeating the same process the coffee was rested in 1 tonne big bags for 40 days after which it was milled and prepared for the competition. We love this coffee because it stands out as an exceptional Brazilian coffee. The layers and complexity combined with the body and sweetness make it a great coffee that won't have you guessing it's from Brazil.
