This coffee is grown by farmer members of Coopagro in the La Huaca region of Cajamarca. Coopagro was founded in 2016 by 279 farmers and today has more than 650 member farmers. Many of the contributing producers grew up on coffee farms and are the latest in coffee farming's long family legacies. With Coopagro's advice and support, farmers in La Huaca were able to significantly improve their coffee quality and income. Before becoming members, most producers were able to sell their coffee locally in Cajamarca at low prices. After the support and training of Coopagros, smallholder farmers in the La Huaca cooperative were able to sell their harvests at higher prices, improving their coffee quality. All members of Coopagros receive training to renovate their farms in the best way possible. At the end of each harvest, they prune coffee trees to help ensure plant productivity and health for years to come. Internal cooperative evaluators visit the farms regularly to provide personalized advice and help producers troubleshoot problems.
