From the same dynamic duo couple of Moises Herrera and Marysabel Caballero who owns El Puente comes a Java variety that is processed in the traditional washed method, retaining much of the character of this amazing coffee. The Java variety has genetic links to an Ethiopian landrace population called Abysinia and was introduced into Central America through Costa Rica in 1991. Due to its resilience to coffee berry disease and coffee leaf rust, coupled with its high cup quality, many producers have considered it a better alternative to the famed Geisha variety. And it is through the hands of Moises and Marysabel that this coffee really shines. Moises is very hands-on in managing every aspect of the farm and with the help of Marysabel, this coffee sparkles every year when we cup the new harvest, without fail. For those curious, El Puente translates to the bridge, which is the one in the photos. Farm was named after it as the pickers and workers had to walk across the bridge to the farm from the early days.
