The Granja La Esperanza estate has been a family-run plantation for three generations, run today by Don Miguel Herrera. It is located in the mountainous Valle del Cauca region in the south west of Colombia , whose name derives from the Cauca River that crosses the country from south to north. Thanks to its proximity to the Pacific Ocean, the West Andes and the Cauca River Valley, this region is home to various ecosystems that are perfect for growing complex, subtle and unique coffees. The Granja La Esperanza estate is made up of 3 farms, including Cerro Azul , which produces the Geisha coffee variety. The estate originally made just Typica, Bourbon and Caturra coffees. Over the years, its owners decided to invest in quality, by entering the demanding world of speciality coffees. So, they decided to bring some exotic varieties over from Panama, like Geisha. After years of testing and financial, material and human investment, they finally managed to create coffees with complex, surprising flavours. Today, the Granja La Esperanza farm grows eight botanical varieties. The coffees grown on the Granja La Esperanza farm are the most famous in Colombia , and are renowned for the quality and uniqueness of their flavour and sensorial profile. In 2012, three of their coffees were named in the top 10 best coffees of the year, organised by the Specialty Coffee Association of America (SCAA).
