Livien Osiemo had long dreamed of having his own plantation until he bought Limwe Estate in 2015 and was finally able to plant his first coffee trees. The farm stretches across five plots of land in Nyamira county, which together make up about eight hectares of plantations. At an altitude of 2,070 metres above sea level, pests and diseases affecting coffee are minimal, so the use of pesticides and fungicides on the plantation is largely unnecessary. Livien also has its own processing plant (wet mill), which ensures the high quality and transparency of the entire production chain. During the washed process, cherries are first sorted and then de-pulped. The coffee is then fermented in tanks for 12-24 hours before being washed in clean water to remove any remaining mucilage. The quality focus throughout the cultivation and processing quickly showed itself in the increasing cup scores of Livien’s coffees.
