Botz Coffee
Whiting, IN, USA
If you’ve been slurping BOTZ since the beginning, you know that some of our most outstanding offerings of the year are the result of the Huila Mágico contest held by the Coffee Quest US. This year we are fortunate enough to feature two pink bourbon lots from the contest that placed 2nd and 1st place. We, frankly, find both to be mind-bending but with their own distinct fruity flair. The 2nd place lot in this year’s Huila Mágico contest was a pink bourbon lot from Santa Librada. Full disclosure – it took us over the edge of “pink bourbon madness” (a BOTZ condition where pink bourbons consume your every thought with their immense fruit qualities). We’re still recovering, but we’ve mustered up enough strength to give you our initial cupping impressions from our roasting dress rehearsal. The first thing you’ll notice about this pink bourbon from Santa Librada is its immense density. In our pink bourbon tasting experiences, this may be as big as they come. Expect a heavy tropical (think guava) and strawberry combo with a zesty and fresh acidity that leads into a recoiling malic finish (bouncing back and forth across the palate). Even with this coffee’s overtly fruity character and wild personality, we find it to be coherent with immense structure (all components working as one). From the moment we tasted it for the first time, we knew this coffee was destined for Botzonians’ cups. We hope you enjoy its brilliance and cherish its effortless and masterful textural juiciness.
