Samuel Degelo grows coffee in Odo Shakisso, Guji in Ethiopia. Ethiopia, the birthplace of coffee, is known for its native varieties that produce vibrant tea-like coffee. Samuel Degelo is one of many farmers in his village, Hadeso, that delivers tiny volumes of coffee to Bishan Dimo Washing Station where the coffee is processed in the traditional washed method. As a model farmer, Bishan Dimo kept his coffee separate in 2019 to submit to the Ethiopian Cup where he won 2nd place and had the highest scoring washed coffee in the competition. Samuel Degelo’s coffee is a rare taste of an individual producer’s work from a small plot of land that is a brilliant expression of what’s to love about traditional washed Ethiopian coffee. This euphoric coffee tastes like sweet peach with tropical complexity, while being exquisitely nuanced throughout.
