Chelbesa is a renowned coffee growing area in the Gedeo Zone of the Gedeb Woreda (district) in Ethiopia's Oromia region. The region benefits from red-brown soil that is rich in iron and high in acidity, making it particularly fertile. Chelbesa Danche, named after the small hamlet of Danche, is a newly established wet mill. It is built and operated by SNAP coffee who purchase high quality cherry from local outgrowers and manage processing at the washing station. This lot has been put together from the production of 476 local smallholders farmers. SNAP has invested in the Chelbesa wet mill's fermentation tanks which were purposefully build with ceramic lining in order to bring clarity to the washed coffee as well as to help speed up the fermentation process thanks to better heat retention. The result is a coffee that is the perfect example of what we love about washed coffees from this origin - silky smooth body with incredible florals aromatics, honeyed sweetness and refined notes of peach and green tea.
