Tasty Coffee Roasters
Izhevsk, Udmurt Republic, Russia
Sweet coffee with notes of orange, dried fruits and milk chocolate. Coffee from the Akatenango Department in Guatemala. This coffee is a mixture of coffee from small farmers with an average land size of only 1-2 hectares. Collected coffee consists of varieties such as bourbon and cathurra. The height at which the farms are located varies from 1700 m to 1800 m above sea level. Guatemala's soil is rich in volcanic ash due to frequent volcanic eruptions. Plantations are located high in the mountains — 1600 – 2000 meters above sea level. And 98% of coffee trees here grow in the shade of other trees. Coffee production in Guatemala is an important part of the national economy. The country is one of the main suppliers of coffee in the USA. It occupies the 8th place among coffee producing countries and produces about 150,000 tons annually. Every third able-bodied Guatemalan is employed in the coffee industry, and coffee sales bring about 40% of the total export of the country's agricultural industry. At the same time, due to the fact that the exchange value of coffee has been at extremely low levels for several years, coffee sales revenues often do not cover the costs of local farmers — coffee is collected here only manually, and logistics from mountain regions at the processing station is often difficult. Therefore, many farmers refuse to grow coffee and transfer their farms to other, more profitable crops.
