AFASA is an association of producers comprisied of 62 small-holder coffee growing families in the Campos das Vertentes region in the southern part of Minas Gerias. The average farm size is 5 hectares. Half of all farms in Brazil are owned & worked by single families. Often these farms have higher costs of production because they are not mechanized and have more difficultly finding long-term international buyer relationships. Specialty coffee importers and roasters are the perfect partners for these small scale farms! Hands-on, small-scale farming allows for more attention to cherry selection and post-harvest processing. Thereby increasing coffee quality and leading to long-term buyer relationships & drastic increase in price for the farmers. AFASA has produced consistently good coffees and we are excited to support them and to feature this coffee that showcases the best of what they do!
