In 2009, international nonprofit Technoserve began working in the Jimma region of Ethiopia to help coffee cooperatives acquire the tools and knowledge necessary to produce specialty-grade coffee. Mensur Abahika, an accomplished farmer known for producing quality natural processed coffee, is an integral part of these operations. He works with the Tokuma Farmer Group, a Western Ethiopian collective whose members have organized to market their coffees and share knowledge with each other. In addition to the contributions provided by the collective, Mensur and his colleagues have greatly benefited from the relaxing of restrictions in the Ethiopian coffee market over the past few years. Thanks to these factors, Tokuma Farmer Group has been able to increase their coffee quality year over year, and the Jimma Zone is now viewed as one of the top quality producing regions in the country. This is an exciting time for Mensur and many of the coffee farmers in Ethiopia, who have sought to produce high quality natural processed coffee, and we are excited to share that hard work with you!
