duck-rabbit coffee
Cleveland, OH, USA
This coffee comes from Yemen’s highest and most coveted coffee growing region, Bani Matari. Growing altitudes start at 2000 meters above sea level and stretch up to around 2400 masl. The climate is extremely arid here. Yemen was the first place coffee was cultivated outside Ethiopia and all the varietals grown here are very old Ethiopian landrace varieties. Tall old-growth trees in the area resemble a fruit orchard more than a coffee farm. On average, farmers in the area have about 1000 coffee trees planted on about 1/2 hectare. About 100 farmers contributed to this lot sourced by Fatoum Muslot. Fatoum took over the family coffee business started by her father in the 1950’s. Since managing the group, she has implemented many quality focused practices. Mega altitudes, unique climate, and old landrace varietals work to bring about a coffee experience unlike anything else.
