Marking the third year of showcasing coffee from Myanmar, this year's lot is a naturally processed coffee from the Myin Kya Doe village. Complex and highly textural with notes of black cherry crumble topped with sweet tropical lychee, tasty is an understatement. Located in the eastern part of Myanmar, Myin Kya Doe is in the Ywangan area of Southern Shan State, where the cultivation of speciality coffee is becoming more and more popular thanks to the work of a farmers group, Shwe Taung Thu. Translated as Golden Farmer, the group was formed in May 2018 as a part of a USAID project 'Value Chains for Rural Development'. Playing a vital role in supporting smallholder farmers transition from cultivating commercial-grade to speciality-grade coffee for increased earnings, the group provides leadership, finance and technical assistance while offering access and exposure to fair trade. Having achieved so much in such a short time, coffees such as Myin Kya Doe deserves a big cheer!
